10. Teasing a bald person is not a joke:

Scripture text: 2 Kings 2:23-24

Let’s take a look. Elisha was setting out from Jericho to Bethel when some young men left the town and scoffed at him and tease him with names like "bald head." Their joke suggested a pernicious aim, particularly when the way of life of the time demanded indicating appreciation to their elders. Elisha gets distraught and curses them in the name of the Lord, and in a split second two female bears rise up out of a nearby wood and maul every one of the 42 young men to death.

The lesson of this story? Try not to ridicule bald people.

9. God is not fond of 'selfie'

Scripture text: Exodus 33:23

It's a major day for Moses. Finally, he will finally see his creator up close and personal. His excitement was meant disappointment when ultimately God backs out at the last minute asserting that no man can see his face and live. Then again, he has an answer. He will let Moses have a look at his rear, "And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: however my face should not be seen." Moses must be crushed. He was wanting to see God's face not his base!

The lesson of this story? God works in mysterious ways.

8. Jesus cursed the Fig tree

Scripture text: (Matthew 21:18-22; Mark 11:20-26)

So, Jesus is walking from Bethany and he’s feeling a bit hungry. Seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, Jesus came, if perhaps he might find anything thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season of figs. Annoyed, He said to it, "No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you." And at once the fig tree withered. Jesus curses the fig tree to death. Why did He do it? Well, the action was symbolic. The point is that the leaves on the tree advertised that there were figs there as well, but it was a false advertisement. Jesus used this to teach a memorable lesson: the tree was cursed not just because it was not bearing fruit, but because it was making a show of life that promised fruit but delivered none.

The lesson of this story: Just like the fig tree, man must bear fruits.

7. King Eglon’s dishonorable death:

Scripture text:Judges 3:21-25

The story of Eglon king of Moab takes place during the time of the judges. Ehud was chosen by God to be Israel's "unlikely deliverer". Ehud is the only southpaw (left-handed) mentioned in the Bible. His disability actually becomes the centerpiece of the strategy to assassinate King Eglon. He was not merely taking a trip to deliver a check from the treasuries of the Israelites to King Eglon;he also devised a perfect assassination plan. Ehud told King Eglon, he had a "secret message from God".

The message Ehud revealed was one of plunging the double-edged sword into the belly of the king who "was a very fat man. At first he can’t get it in, but he pushes harder and eventually reaches his intestine. Even the handle sank in after the blade, and his bowels discharged. The King’s attendants eventually come back, but do not enter Eglon’s bed chamber, assuming he is relieving himself. After waiting “to the point of embarrassment”, his attendants burst in to find their king dead on the floor, covered in his own faecal matter. Meanwhile, Ehud had escaped to the town of Seriah.

The lesson of this story: Disabled people can accomplish great things.

6. Onan's weird birth control method

Scripture text: Genesis 38:8-10

This is a story wherein Judah asked his Onan, his child, to have intercourse with his dead sibling's wife so as to make a 'genuine heir' to Er (his dead brother). The story goes like this: Onan is somewhat apprehensive at first, but agrees to go through with his father's unusual plan. He starts to have intercourse with the woman, yet ultimately chooses to pull out and spill "his seed upon the ground." God is so irked he chooses to kill Onan as well. Why did God executed Onan? God's anger against Onan had everything to do with his failure to fulfill his covenantal obligation, and nothing to do with his method of birth control.

The lesson of this story: Every sperm is holy

5. All for love:

Scripture text: 1 Samuel 18:25-27

Young and in love, David desperately wants to marry Saul’s daughter Michal and offers Saul anything he needs to give him a chance to marry her. What could Saul, possibly want? Money? A pledge of affection? No. Saul wants foreskins. 100 to be exact. Why? Who cares. "If you want my daughter, you’re going to have to find 100 foreskins by tomorrow." David finds this odd, but then again this girl is hot, so he goes out and kills 200 men, and collects their foreskins. Saul was impressed and hands over his daughter to David.

The lesson of this story: Do anything for love.

4. Quick Circumcision

Scripture text: Exodus 4:24-26

This is another case that has to do with foreskin. Here, God is trying to kill Moses because his son isn’t circumcised. God is about to do it when his wife Zipporah takes out a flint and quickly cuts the foreskin of his son (ouch), throwing the bloody skin fragment at Moses’ feet. Gosh, this woman has guts to save his husband's life. God was impressed that He put hold His plan and spare Moses' life.

The lesson of this story: Always trust that your woman will always be on your side.

3. Homosexual rape or Gang rape?

Scripture text: Judges 19:22-30

This is one horrible and bizarre story of rape that one can wonder what the purpose is. Here is the story; A Levite and his concubine are wandering the streets when they decide to seek shelter for the night, and find a man kind enough to let them stay. That night, however, a group of perverted men turn up at the door and demand to see the guest. They wanted to sexually abuse (rape) him.

No wonder the old man urged the men not to do such a vile and wicked thing. Only the threat of homosexual rape could prompt the old man to offer his virgin daughter and the Levite’s concubine to be sexually abused and thus to satisfy their deviant sexual desires. The men brutally rape the concubine all night until morning and leave her on the doorstep where she bleeds to death.

What happens next is even more shocking. When the man found his concubine, he chops her up into twelve pieces which he sends to each of the twelve tribes of Israel.

The lesson of this story: None I can think of.

2. The talking Donkey: Believe it or Not

Scripture text: Numbers 22:28-30

Here, Balaam is spanking his ass (donkey) when suddenly he hears a voice. It’s his donkey who is asking him why he is spanking him. It is incredible that Balaam even replies to the donkey. If an animal spoke to one of us, would we respond? Perhaps he thought, "Well, I've talked to her enough. She was bound to answer me sometime." This is obviously a miracle—there is only one other place in the Bible (Genesis 3, the serpent to Eve) where an animal speaks—yet Balaam acts as if it happens to him every day! The donkey asks him questions, and he answers!

The lesson of this story: Be kind to animals or else they may open up a conversation.

1. Jacob altered genetics

Scripture text: Genesis 30:37-39

This is the most odd story in the Bible. Laban (Jacob's father-in-law) is basically cheating on him. He is taking all of Jacob’s beloved striped and spotted cattle. So Jacob designed a cunning plan: he gets some peeled poles, which were supposed to have some kind of prenatal influence on the flocks. He begins painting stripes on them and plants them next to his cattle. Jacob believed that by putting striped rods in front of where the animals mated that more striped and spotted animals would be born. What a genius plan and it actually works! God caused the animals to have altered genetics, although Jacob thought that it was due to his little trick of putting the striped rods in front of where the animals mated. As such, this is an example of a supernatural rather than a naturalistic event.

The lesson of this story: Your guess is as good as mine.
Whether they're considering their arteries or their waistline, butter has gotten a bad rap for the past 50 years.
But times, they are a’changin, and dairy products like butter are becoming increasingly nutrient-rich, thanks to the growing grass-fed cow industry. Research has found that feeding cows grass rather than corn or grain not only produces leaner, more nutrient-rich meat, but also more vitamin- and mineral-dense milk, meaning healthier butter.

photo link

It's Filled with Immune-Boosting Vitamins

Spreading butter on your morning toast may not only improve your body’s immunity, but also help reduce cancer cell growth and increase red blood cell production thanks to vitamins A and D. One tablespoon of butter contains 7 percent and 2 percent of your daily values (DV) of vitamins A and D, respectively. Plus, because both vitamins are fat soluble, butter is a prime vehicle for aiding absorption of nutrients in the body.

It Keeps Bones Strong

Thanks to vitamin K and vitamin D, butter may also help increase bone and muscle strength. Known as the [blood] clotting vitamin, vitamin K not only helps maintain bone density but has also been linked to a 30 percent decrease in hip fractures in women who consume at least 110 micrograms per day, according to a study by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Adding one tablespoon of butter to a baked potato accounts for 1 percent of your DV.

It Reduces Symptoms of Diabetes

Found almost solely in cheese and butter, sodium butyrate has been linked to an improved response to insulin for patients with diabetes and increased energy in mice, according to a study published by the American Diabetes Association. It may also help alleviate constipation and may even help protect against colon cancer.
It Fights Cancer

Found in dairy products, including butter, conjugated linoleic acid has been tied to tumor reduction in colorectal cancer and may even help fight breast cancer, according to an experimental pathology study conducted at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

It's Better Than Margarine

Contrary to popular belief, some margarines – particularly first-wave varieties – are actually worse for you than butter due to high levels of trans fats. What’s more, researchers have also found that the vegetable fats contained in margarine are more likely to result in death among patients with heart disease than the saturated fat in butter.

It May Prevent Tooth Decay

Certain fat-soluble vitamins – including calcium and vitamins A, D and K – which are found in higher amounts in butter from grass-fed cows than in olive oil or margarine, may help fight cavities and even reverse tooth decay, according to research.

Butter Still Should be Used

Now, that’s not to say that butter doesn’t have its issues. It’s still high in saturated fat and shouldn’t be consumed in large quantities – particularly if you’re prone to high cholesterol or at risk for heart disease – but these lesser-known benefits may help you feel less guilty when you indulge in a golden pat or two.

P-Noy's last SONA addressed on 27 July 2015 was simply pathetic! His lengthy speech can be likened to a mere congratulatory speech - thanking and patting his allies on the back.

photo link
He too gave a detailed narration of his "achievements." But sad to say, all his rhetoric were lousy notes that would not appease his hungry “bosses.” The people waited for him to mention his concrete plans on addressing more important and sensitive sensitive issues our country is facing right now! Ironically, he intentionally omits mentioning these issues.

Let me elaborate.

President Aquino enumerated his "achievements" and pointed out that his pet projects somehow helped improve the country in some way. P-Noy talked lengthily about the rise of the Philippine economy, but the ordinary people don’t feel it! For his shortfalls, Aquino always has someone to blame, his predecessor Gloria Arroyo. Gosh! "Kakasawa na, parang sirang plaka."

The President did mention something about the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), anti-dynasty bill, and even his "yaya" and hairstylist; but glaringly failed to mention the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill, the Mamasapano incident, the anomalous housing projects for Yolanda victims, the deteriorating peace and order, among others.

He even goes to the extent of putting the blame on Arroyo for neglect of the Metro Rail Transit. All the ongoing hardship MRT train commuters had to bear is a result of his predecessor's failures to address the needs of our public train transport system. While I agree with the fact, still the burden to make the right decision on what to do falls on PNoy. My God, PNoy has guts to even praise Abaya despite his mismanagement of MRT. He should have done the right thing, admonish Jun Abaya the way he would someone who is not an ally.

To sum it up, PNoy's last SONA is full of lies. Luckily, we won’t have to listen to any more of President Aquino's his lies in the next few months up to the end of his tenure.

photo link

You may have been told at home or taught in school to brush your teeth as soon as you finish a meal. Guys, don't be in a rush. Stay on your seat and spare a few minutes reading this interesting post. Who knows, the information presented might change your 'pearly whites' practice for the better.

One study has shown that brushing after after meals and drinks, especially those that are acidic can damage your teeth. Citrus foods like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits can leave acid on your teeth. Also, sugary drinks such as sodas, diet colas, and energy drinks produce acid residue on your teeth.

Acid attacks the teeth and softens the tooth enamel. Brushing too soon after consuming acidic foods could push the acid deeper and slowly wears away tooth enamel and damaging the dentin (the soft layer underneath the enamel.)

So to protect the dentin from being expose, dental practitioners suggested delaying brushing your teeth for at least 30 or 60 minutes after eating citrus and acidic beverages.

In the meantime, here are some things that can be done to get rid of acid:

• Rinse your mouth with tap water or using an antibacterial mouthwash after eating or drinking.
• Chew sugar-free gum (this encourages saliva production to neutralize the acidity.)
• To protect the tooth enamel, drink your beverages by sipping through a straw.

"Maggie May" (or "Maggie Mae") is a traditional Liverpool folk song. A brief extract was performed by the Beatles in a joking manner during their Get Back sessions, in early 1969, at a point in the proceedings when they were warming up in the studio by playing old rock and roll and skiffle songs that they had known and played in their teenage years. They adopt heavy scouse accents for the performance. Though the performance was obviously tongue-in-cheek a truncated version of it was included on the 1970 album drawn from those sessions, Let It Be, appearing as the last track on the LP's first side, immediately after the title song.
1. Her Majesty (0.26)
It is a brief tongue-in-cheek music hall song.[1] "Her Majesty" is the final track of the album and appears 14 seconds after the song "The End", but was not listed on the original sleeve. As such, it is considered one of the first examples of a hidden track in rock music.
The Pulasan (Nephelium mutabile) is a small spiky fruit native to Malaysia. The name pulasan comes from the Malay word pulas (twist). It has various common names, including kapulasan in Indonesia, ngoh-khonsan in Thailand, and bulala or panungayan in the Philippines. The fruit is ovoid, 5-7.5 cm long, dark red, with thick, leathery and spiky rind. Inside is the white or yellowish-white, juicy flesh (aril).

The skin ranges in color from red to black and is harder to tear apart. It has a sweeter taste than the rambutan and lychee and somewhat similar to that of almonds. It is usually confused with its hairy cousin, the rambutan. Compared to the rambutan, the pulasan lacks the hairy spines. It is also bigger, sweeter and the flesh does not stick to its seed.
The Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus)is known as the largest tree-borne fruit in the world. It is native to parts of South and Southeast Asia, and is believed to have originated in the southwestern rain forests of India. The fruit is oblong to cylindrical and typically 30 to 40 cm in length and weigh 4.5 to 30 kg. The thick skin is green or yellow when ripe and the rind secretes white sticky latex.

The interior consists of non-edible “rags” and large sweet-smelling yellow flesh that encloses a smooth, oval, light-brown seed. The succulent, aromatic, and flavorful flesh are eaten fresh or cooked. It can also be made into jams or preserves and chips as well.

The Marang (Artocarpus odoratissimus), also called madang, and tarap, is a medium-sized fruit closely related to jackfruit, cempedak and breadfruit. Its round to oblong fruit can grow to as much as 15–20 cm long and 13 cm broad, and can weigh about 1 kg. The thick skin is covered with soft, broad spines that becomes hard and brittle as the fruit matures.

The ripe fruit can be opened by using the hands - twisting and gently pulling the skin. The fruit core resembles that of the jackfruit but with fewer “rags”. The edible areas are white, juicy, fragrant and with small seeds. Compared to durian, Marian has a more appealing scent and a sweeter flavor. The fruit should be eaten quickly as it fast loses its flavor and the fruit oxidizes.

The Cempedak (Artocarpus integer) is often confused with the jackfruit. The sausage-shaped fruit is similar to the jackfruit in appearance but smaller. The interior can also be mistaken as marang but with bigger arils. The fleshy, edible aril has a green color and turns slightly yellowish as it's ripe.

The fragrant taste is similar to the breadfruit and jackfruit with a hint of durian. The flesh is rather perishable, so it should be consumed quickly. Unlike the jackfruit which usually needs a knife to break open, a ripe cempedak fruit is soft and can be opened using the hands. It can be fried or made into delicious cakes.
Probably, one of the most popular classroom phrase is, “I hate Math”! But is the subject really that difficult? Are math problems “tough nut to crack”? Let’s have some fun. Answers the following Math-related questions and find out how good are you in Math.

1. In his will, a farmer left his eleven cows to his three sons. Half were to go to the eldest, one-fourth to the middle and one-sixth to the youngest. How was it done?

2. A car dealer was asked how many cars he had on stock. He answered, “If one-half, one-third, and one-fourth of the numbers of cars were added together, they would make 13.” How many cars did he have in stock?

3. Find the number which when increased by 3, then miltiplying the product by ¾, then dividing by 7, diminished by 1/3 of the quotient, multiplying the number by itself, subtracting 52, getting the square root, adding 8, and dividing by 10 gives the number 2?

4. If it takes 3 minutes to cut a carrot into 3 pieces, how long would it take to cut a carrot into 4 pieces?

5.How much dirt is in a hole 2 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 3 inches deep?

6. If a tray of eggs sells fro 20 pesos per dozen, which costs less, ½ dozen dozen eggs, or 6 dozen eggs?

7. A train 1 km long travels through a tunnel 1 km long at a speed of 1km/hr. How long will it take the train to pass completely through the tunnel?

8.Using only a 7-minute and an 11-minute hour glass, how can you boil an egg for exactly 15 minutes?

9. A wolf, a rabbit, and a carrot must be moved across a river in a boat which can hold only one besides the boatman. How must the boatman carry them so that the rabbit shall not it the carrot; or the wolf, the goat?

10. A dog chases a rabbit which is already 150 feet away. Every time the dog jumps 9 feet, the rabbit at the same time, jumps 7 feet. How many jumps does the dog have to make to overtake the rabbit?

Answers:

1. Eldest = ½ x 11 = 5.5; to the nearest units = 6
Middle = ¼ x 11 = 2.75; to the nearest units = 3
Youngest = 1/6 x 11 = 1.75; to the nearest units = 2

2. 12

Let n = number of cars
½ n + 1/3 n + ¼ n = 13; get the LCD
13/12 n = 13
n = 13 x 12/13
n = 12

3. The answer is 28; very practical one

4. 4 1/2 minutes (4 and 30 seconds) Don’t believe me, then go cut one yourself.

5. Nothing. How can you store something into a hole.

6. Both will cost the same.

7. 2 hours.

Speed = distance x time
1km/hr = 1km x time
1km/hr x 1/1km = time
1hr = time the train is completely inside the tunnel and will take another hour to completely pass through it.

8. Procedure:

a. Use the 7-min and 11-min hour glass at the same time.
b. Once the 7-min glass hour is consumed, turn the 11-min glass hour upside down. ( 11 min – 7 min = 4).
c. Start boiling the egg. When the 11- min glass hour is done, turn it again upside down. (4 min + 11 min = 15 min).

9. Solution:

Cross the river carrying the rabbit with you. Leave the carrot and cross back. Its now the carrot’s turn, but this time carry back the rabbit as you return to get the wolf. Bring the wolf in, leaving behind the goat. Lastly, return and get the goat. Whooh! Seems a hard work.

10. On the 76th jump.

N = number of jump.
9 n – 7 n = 150
n = 150/2 = 75
On the 75th jump, both dog and rabbit are on the same footing.
The beautiful Maserati GranTurismo coupe was launched in 2007, and in 2010 they made an even more attractive (and more expensive) version – a cabriolet. They announced they would stop making it in 2014. Maserati GranTurismo S was introduced in 2008. This beast has a 4.7-liter V8 and 434 horsepower, reaches 62 mph in 4.9 seconds. Its top speed is 183 mph, which is more than great for a vehicle that weighs 1.8 tonnes. It is one of those things that can’t be described with words, so take a look at the photo, or even better – schedule a test ride if you can. It can be yours for roughly $150,000.

For a car that only weighs 1.5 tonnes, Lamborghini Aventador is incredibly powerful. With a 6.5-liter V12, reaching 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, and top speed of 217 km/h, ‘the fighting bull’ will leave you breathless. And so will its price – $400,000 – $440,000. As for the LP 700-4 model, they announced they would produce only four thousand cars. The production is, of course, very slow, but it’s worth waiting.

Beside its looks, the most impressive thing about this car is probably its engine: 6.2-litre V8 LT1 – a small block engine with three great innovations: active fuel management, variable valve timing, and direct injection. It comes either with a six-speed automatic transmisssion or seven-speed manual. Compared to the previous generation, there is one downside – considerably decreased luggage space. However, this car is amazing in so many ways, and if you buy it, luggage will be the last thing on your mind.
This beauty is not here yet, but we are looking forward to meeting her. It is planned for 2015. The previous models came with an impressive aluminum V6 VTEC engine that Honda is famous for, and we expect the 2015 NSX to be even more impressive. Honda stopped making NSX in 2005, and after a long break, the production will start again with an amazing new model. Honda lovers are expecting it with impatience, and so are we. They haven’t revealed much about it, but the photo from the International Car Show in NY 2012 should tell you quite enough.
If you want luxury, that is exactly what you get – inside and out. We’re talking about fancy interior: leather seats with heating, touch-screen indicators to help you park the car easily (hey, you don’t want to scratch this one!), auto-dimming mirrors to help you at night, turbocharged engine, eight-speed smart stop-start transimition and much more. With top speed of 149 mph and 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, it is a fairly decent car. The price ranges between $45,000 and $95,000.
There are dozens of 'pain reliever' available in the market. But before you rush to buy one to treat your sore back, achy joints, or painful arthritis; why not consider some of these pain-fighting foods.

Salmon

photo link

For joints, back, Neck

Salmon is rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids which reduce levels of inflammation in the blood vessels, joints and elsewhere in the body. Several studies have shown that these essential nutrients can reduce joint swelling, pain and morning stiffness in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Studies have also shown that intake of omega-3s reduce pain associated with menstrual cramps, headaches and even neck and back discomfort. Wild-caught salmon, fresh or canned, is healthier than farm-raised salmon, which may contain toxic chemicals depending on the conditions they’re raised in. Two-servings a week of salmon or other cold-water fatty fish like sardines, anchovies, herring and trout are recommended.

Cherries

photo link

For Achy Joints and Exercise Soreness

Research done at Michigan State University found that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds in tart cherries—called anthocyanins—have powerful pain-fighting power. In fact, lead researcher Muralee G. Nair, Ph.D., Professor at Michigan State University College of Agriculture & Natural Resources, said cherries are “as good as ibuprofen and some of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.” Dr. Nair suggests that eating 20 tart cherries can significantly reduce inflammation related discomfort. You can use frozen or fresh cherries, the darker the better.

Ginger

For Chronic Knee Pain

Long used as a remedy for travel sickness, nausea and indigestion, ginger is also an effective pain reliever. In one study, University of Miami researchers found that almost two-thirds of patients with chronic knee pain had less soreness after taking a ginger extract for six weeks. In another study, Dr. Krishna C. Srivastava of Odense University in Denmark gave arthritic patients small amounts of ginger (5 grams of fresh ginger or 1 tsp of dried ginger) every day for three months. Most of those studied showed significant improvements in pain and morning stiffness.

Turmeric

photo link

For Sore Joints

Frequently used in curry and other Indian dishes, the yellow compound in turmeric, curcumin, contains powerful anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. A study published in 2009 in “The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine” compared curcumin with ibuprofen for pain relief in more than 100 people with knee osteoarthritis. Researchers found that curcumin was just as effective as ibuprofen for improving function and pain in those suffering from the disorder.

Papaya

photo link

For Back Pain

Papaya, a sweet exotic fruit, contains an enzyme called papain that not only improves digestion, but is an effective anti-inflammatory. It is so effective that some doctors even use it in injections for back pain. In addition, the fruit is high in antioxidant vitamins A and C which are good for reducing diseases that are worsened by inflammation such as osteoarthritis. Easy to eat (just spoon it out of its skin), you can add papaya to salads or smoothies or make it into a salsa. Or eat half a papaya spritzed with juice from a lime wedge as a breakfast treat.

Tahini

photo link

For Headaches

Tahini, a spread made from sesame seeds, is a rich source of magnesium, which has been shown to keep headaches—especially migraines—at bay. Some studies have linked migraines and chronic headaches with a magnesium deficiency. A daily dose of two tablespoons of tahini can be spread on toast. However, be careful how much tahini you eat since it is high in fat.

In Japanese Fujiyama means the "king of mountains", therefore you can conclude that Fuji-Q Highland park chose this name so it could be known as the king of all roller coasters in Japan. Fujiyama is one of the tallest and longest steel coasters in the world.

This megacoaster stands 26-storeys tall, features a steep 230-foot descent at a 65 degree angle and a top speed of 80.8 mph. After the twenty three story plunge, Fujiyama's trains follow a double out and back layout with a number of airtime producing hills and drops that is well over a mile in length.
At 80 meters (260 ft) tall, this megacoaster has a maximum speed of 130 kilometers per hour (81 mph). Its 1,066.8 meters (3,500 ft) long course begins with a 218-foot descent at a steep 80 degree angle then the trains long passes through both a hole in the LaQua building, and through the Big-O, the world's first centerless Ferris wheel.
Do you believe that until now, there are still millions of people in the world who have not seen and used a vending machine? And would you believe that as early as the 2nd century CE, vending machine was already invented by Hero of Alexandria. This engineer and mathematician invented a vending machine that accepted a coin and then dispensed a fixed amount of holy water. When the coin was deposited, it fell upon a pan attached to a lever. The lever opened up a valve which lets some water flow out. The pan continued to tilt with the weight of the coin until it fell off, at which point a counterweight would snap the lever back up and turn off the valve.
Until now, the sorrow still haunts the families of those who has suffered the death of someone they loved. Facts have been uncovered, statements and press releases flooded the news. Still, we are in a limbo to what exactly happened to the failed 'Operation Plan (Oplan) Exodus'. The nation have long prayed for that this sad event will finally have its closure.

We Filipinos also clamored for truth and transparency in government. now that the we finally get a so admirable an account as the Philippine National Police board of inquiry’s Mamasapano Report, we must show that we know what to do with the truth.

photo link

The BOI (board of inquiry) report is now out and ready for download from every media outlet. The crisply written 112 pages are easy to read in one sitting. Here, the minute details of the operation are clearly discussed. The questions bugging every Juan dela Cruz mind can now be answered. The truth is all there. It is up for the reader - to know what to do with the truth.

Here are some damaging truth about the report that readers should ponder on:

1. The executive summary’s first sentence is telling: “Sixty-seven (67) Filipinos died in Mamasapano, Maguindanao as a result of an encounter triggered by Operation Plan (Oplan) Exodus.” Sixty-seven because one must add the civilian and Moro Islamic Liberation Front and other rebel casualties to the 44 PNP Special Action Force casualties.

2. The operation was a poorly planned, poorly coordinated one that resulted in needless deaths. Many flaws are painfully detailed. With the President’s approval, suspended PNP chief Alan Purisima assumed a seeming command role. Purisima misinformed the President and gave him the impression that the SAF was withdrawing under artillery support when one company was in fact being decimated in a cornfield without reinforcement. SAF commander Getulio Napeñas failed to coordinate with the army yet assured his men of artillery support.

3. The report’s most damning line reads: “There was a breakdown of command and control at all levels due to ineffective and unreliable communication among and between the operating units.” Purisima and Napeñas sent text messages instead of urgently calling the President and generals. SAF troops used nonmilitary-grade radios that broke down. Units had to determine each other’s location by firing distinctive gunshots. The report even cites a GPS breakdown, dud grenades and the failure of the 55th Company (which had only one survivor) to spot a defensible row of coconut trees 100 meters behind it."

4. the BOI report concludes that President Benigno Aquino III violated the chain of command when he allowed suspended PNP chief Alan Purisima to have a role in a bungled counterterrorism mission that cost the lives of 44 police commandos on Jan. 25.

5. The unmistakable conclusion is that the SAF 44 were killed as much by overconfident, reckless planning as they were by actual bullets.

A lot of our questions have now been answered. But the next question is: “What do we do with the Mamasapano Report’s difficult truth?

My say: One must accept the truth and handle it wisely.
If a number can be divided exactly by another number without any remainder, then we say:

The first number is divisible by the second and the second number divides the first.

1. Divisibility by 2

Even numbers with units digit of 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 are divisible by 2.

2. Divisibility by 3

A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of the digits of the number is divisible by 3.

Example: 8,247 is divisible by 3 because 8 + 2 + 4 + 7 = 21, and 21 is divisible by 3.

3. Divisibility by 4

If the last two digits of a number form a number that is divisible by 4, then the number is divisible by 4.

Note: Any number whose last two digits is 00 is considered to be divisible by 4.

Example 924: The last two digits in this number (2 and 4) is divisible by 4, so 924 is divisible by 4.

4. Divisibility by 5

If the last digit or units of a number is 0 or 5, then the number is divisible by 5.

5. Divisibility by 6

A number is divisible by 6 if the number is divisible by both 2 and 3. Or, any even number divisible by 3 is also divisible by 6.

6. Divisibility by 8

A number is divisible by 8 if the number formed by the last 3 digits is divisible by 8.

Example: 5,280 is divisible by 8 since the last 3 digits of the number (280) is divisible by 8.

7. Divisibility by 9

A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of the digits is divisible by 9.

Example: 1,545 is divisible by 9 since 1 + 5 +4 + 5 = 18, and 18 is divisible by 9.

8. Divisibility by 10

A number is divisible by 10 if the last digit or units digit is 0.

9. Divisibility by 11

A number is divisible by 11 if the difference between the sums of the digits in the odd places and the digits in the even places is either 0 or a multiple of 11.

Example: 8,591,726 is divisible by 11 since
8 + 9 + 7 + 6 = 30 and 5 + 1 + 2 = 8
30 – 8 = 22 (a multiple of 11).

An apple a day really could keep the doctor away – as long as you don’t throw away the peel. Picky apple eaters have the habit of removing the skin, before taking the first bite. Whatever the reason - you are not getting all an apple has to offer by peeling it first. The chemical behind the apple skin’s waxy shine is being credited with a host of health benefits.

Here are some very powerful reasons to never remove the skin again.

• Apple peels are naturally rich in nutrients and fiber. In fact, peels contain 2−6 times more nutrients and insoluble fiber than the flesh itself.
• The apple skin contains ursolic acid that keeps cholesterol and blood sugar under control.
• The apple skin contains a range of different antioxidants, including flavonoids.
• Quercetin, another flavonoid in apple peels, can ease breathing problems and enhances memory.
• Support healthy joints
• It lowers obesity risk
• The skin may also keep cancer at bay.

6. Kiwi fruit
Though the kiwi skin might appear unappealing and unappetizing, you might be surprised that it is as rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants as the kiwi flesh itself. The fruit skin is as edible as the fruit’s green flesh.

Kiwi fruit skin hidden benefits:

• Contains fiber and vitamin C.
• The skin contains three times the antioxidants of the pulp.
• Contains anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic properties.
• The skin contains enzymes which exfoliate the dead skin cells from the skin.

Throw away the skin and you are throwing away the best bits. Studies have shown that the skin contains a higher concentration of vitamins and nutrients than the flesh itself. Therefore, to get the maximum health benefits of peaches, eat them raw along with the skin.

Here are some health benefits of eating the fruit with the skin:

• Eating the peel can boost the immune system.
• Good for eye health and vision.
• High in potassium and vitamin A, it promotes skin health.
• Helps maintain body weight.
• Peaches peel lowers the risk of hearth disease.
• Pears skin contains chlorogenic acid, a potent antioxidant that can inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

To promote growth and good health, we must fully understand how this complex machine (body) works. For it to function and work properly, a steady flow of nutrients working together harmoniously must be maintained. It is a common knowledge that our body can’t produce all the nutrients it needs; thus, we need to collect other substances from food. We can achieve this by taking in daily doses of multivitamins and minerals through supplements.

Vitamins are chemical compounds that fall into 2 categories: water-soluble — vitamin C and B-complex vitamins(such as vitamins, B6, B12) and fat-soluble – vitamins — A,D,E, and K.

Here is a list of these common vitamins – their health benefits and sources:

Vitamin A – promotes normal vision and regulates cell growth.
Sources: green leafy vegetables, broccoli, carrots, squash.

Vitamin B1 – helps produce energy from carbohydrates in body cells.
Sources: beef, bread, pork, corn, rice.

Vitamin B2 – helps produce energy in body cells.
Sources: beef, eggs, milk.

Vitamin B6 - facilitates the production of protein components as well as helps body produces chemical like antibodies, hemoglobin and insulin. antibodies.
Sources: animal meat, bananas, broccoli, spinach.

Vitamin B12 — keeps the brain healthy. Vitamin B12 also regulates red blood cells and helps maintain healthy nerve cells.
Sources: found almost exclusively in animal products.

Vitamin D – sustains bone health and density by allowing the body to retain calcium and phosphorus.
Sources: egg yolk and milk.

Vitamin E - it boosts the body’s immune functions. A powerful antioxidant, vitamin E protects your cells against free radicals.
Sources: butter, brown rice, nuts, vegetable oils, such as soybean oil and corn oil.

Vitamin K- produces protein for bones and kidneys.
Sources: green leafy vegetables, cereals, dairy products, eggs, milk, and other vegetables.

Niacin – assists acids in producing energy in cells, helps enzymes in their normal function, and helps your body use sugars and fatty acids.
Sources: protein-rich foods

Folate - enhances the production of new cells. Work together with vitamin B12 to produce hemoglobin in red cells.
Sources: breakfast cereals, whole wheat products, meat, vegetables like asparagus, beans, and leafy green vegetables, fruits such as bananas, oranges, lemons, and tomatoes.
Another big blow to our military personnel, 44 PNP-SAF men were brutally killed in a clash with Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao province. This is the nth time that such encounter between AFP soldiers and MILF groups; but this time around a heavy toll on our soldiers.

My heart bled for the soldiers' families and love ones. Some questions linger in my mind and needs some answers. Were the lives of the Fallen 44 enough compensation just to achieve PEACE in Mindanao? When will these bloody encounters in Mindanao finally meet its end? How many more families will grief and find sorrows upon losing their love ones? Questions without definite answers for the time being.

In the search for answers, I content answering a question, which have three logical answers. Going back to the topic at hand, WHAT IF?

What if..
The failed military operation was carefully planned and executed? Would the outcome be reversed?
To what I've gathered, President Aquino and a few of his trusted knew of the operations from the very start. Was this a 'secret' military action? A number of high ranking field commanders were left out in the drawing board. Did they send elite SAF forces? Perhaps, but a more battle-tested PNP personnel should have gone there instead. Were the 300+ men enough to do the job? Is the number enough to counter enemy resistance? I guess not. How about you?

What if...
There is full coordination between our forces and the MILF group? The incident happened in a hostile territory controlled by the Muslim. What if the MILF group didn't join the fray? I do believe there would be a few or no casualties at all between both parties.

What if...
The peace agreement have been formally signed and in effect long before this encounter took place? I am so sure, peace reign over the region and military aggression would be a thing of the past.

But these IFs are now water under the bridge. The damage had been done and lives were lost. Echoes of war will still be in the air. More collateral damages would be exhausted. Peace talks would be on the brink of collapse.

But for now, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the Fallen 44. Justice must be served. Let every Pilipino aim that peace in Mindanao be achieve.

What is bad and good cholesterol?

The cholesterol flowing in your blood vessels is not actually the dreadful character medical science pictured it to be, particularly if good cholesterol offsets bad cholesterol. The truth is, in order to have a healthy body, our body should avoid the bad cholesterol known as LDL (low-Density Lipoproteins), at the same time our body needs sufficient amount of the good cholesterol known as HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein). Read on to learn more about the difference between the two:

Both LDL and HDL are important to our body–LDL injects cholesterol to the bloodstream needed in the production of hormones and bile salts in the liver. Also, LDL aids in the distribution of fat-soluble vitamins such as Vitamins A, D, E, K through your bloodstream. While HDL main function is to deliver cholesterol back to the liver for disposal.

Since LDL ferries cholesterol to the blood, there is a big risk that increase in cholesterol level might trigger plaque be deposited in the arteries and blood vessels walls. These plaque will eventually blocks blood from flowing to the heart. This is the reason why LDL is commonly referred to as bad cholesterol. The liver produces LDL and the food we eat have nothing to do with the production of LDL.
In contrast, HDL brings cholesterol to the liver, in the process be broken down and excreted. Like LDL, the liver produces HDL and does not directly come from food sources.

To make it easier to understand, LDL transports cholesterol from the liver to the blood while HDL ferries cholesterol from the blood to the liver.

How to keep bad cholesterol (LDL) at a safe level:

* Watch your total fat intake. Stay away from eating visible fat, like visible fat found at the end of the barbeque.
* Design and apply new cooking techniques. As an alternative for frying, why not try steaming or grilling your food.
* Since cholesterol is only found in animal product, prefer vegetables over meat.
* Limit your intake of chips cookies, donuts, muffins, and croissants.
* Eat lots of fiber.
* Watch your weight by ridding off unnecessary weight.

How to increase good cholesterol (HDL):

* Stay physically active.
* Quit smoking.
* Use cooking oils higher in monounsaturated fats such as canola oil or olive oil.
* Substitute your protein source with soy-based foods.
* Choose lean meats.
* Keep a healthy weight.
