My Favorite Animated Cartoon Characters

Five famous animated cartoon characters that I love.

Watching cartoons films whether on television, DVD and now on PC do run in our family. My wife was an avid fan of Ghost Fighter, a Japanese anime. Our eldest, Karen, still had Care Bear CD’s tucked in her closet while my other daughter Meryll still remembers The Sailor Moon’s characters. My son is regularly following the adventures of Naruto. Indeed, most of us have our own lists of favorite cartoon characters. Below is a list of my Top 5 animated cartoon characters. You may have different set in mind and you are free to put them in your comments.

Here is my random list:

1. Mickey Mouse - is considered by many as the world’s popular cartoon character. He is a product of two great minds, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Mickey Mouse was first seen in Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928.

2. Popeye the Sailor - as soon as Popeye munched some spinach and sung the line “I’m Popeye, the Sailorman”, children knew that something really bad will happen to Brutus. Created by Elzie Crisler Segar, Popeye the Sailor is famous for his muscular forearm anchored tattooed and corncob pipe. He debuted in the daily comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929.

3. Superman – “It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no its Superman” was created by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel in 1932 but was later sold to Detective Comics Inc in 1938. ‘The Man of Steel’ first appeared in radio serials, television programs, newspaper strips, video games. Superman’s success was carry over to the big screen where all Superman movies made millions in gate receipt.

4. Charlie Brown - created by the late Charlie Schulz in 1947, Charlie Brown debuted in the comics strip Peanuts. A child full of determination but somehow ended up a loser because bad luck is always associated with him.

5. Bugs Bunny – in 1937 Tex Avery in 1937 created this funny character famous for his “What’s up, Doc?” line. Bug Bunny was a fictional rabbit who first appeared in’ Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies Cartoons. He won the Academy Award for Animation in 1958 and presently the corporate mascot for Warner Brothers animated productions.

You may have other cartoon characters in your mind that should be included in the list, but I guess you have to make a separate list..

    1. I like your list.

  5. Back when me and my siblings were just kids, we love watching Disney and our favorite characters are Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse. Because even if they seldom talk, the actions and the funny scenes really strike us kids.
And now that I have a kid, we both love Hello Kitty and friends.

  15. I never liked Mickey Mouse... In your list, I think I like Popeye best... I would have chosen Superman but he is more of a Comic Book Hero than a Cartoon Character although he had many animated series like the Justice League...
