My Favorite Animated Cartoon Characters

Five famous animated cartoon characters that I love.

Watching cartoons films whether on television, DVD and now on PC do run in our family. My wife was an avid fan of Ghost Fighter, a Japanese anime. Our eldest, Karen, still had Care Bear CD’s tucked in her closet while my other daughter Meryll still remembers The Sailor Moon’s characters. My son is regularly following the adventures of Naruto. Indeed, most of us have our own lists of favorite cartoon characters. Below is a list of my Top 5 animated cartoon characters. You may have different set in mind and you are free to put them in your comments.

Here is my random list:

1. Mickey Mouse - is considered by many as the world’s popular cartoon character. He is a product of two great minds, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Mickey Mouse was first seen in Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928.

2. Popeye the Sailor - as soon as Popeye munched some spinach and sung the line “I’m Popeye, the Sailorman”, children knew that something really bad will happen to Brutus. Created by Elzie Crisler Segar, Popeye the Sailor is famous for his muscular forearm anchored tattooed and corncob pipe. He debuted in the daily comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929.

3. Superman – “It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no its Superman” was created by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel in 1932 but was later sold to Detective Comics Inc in 1938. ‘The Man of Steel’ first appeared in radio serials, television programs, newspaper strips, video games. Superman’s success was carry over to the big screen where all Superman movies made millions in gate receipt.

4. Charlie Brown - created by the late Charlie Schulz in 1947, Charlie Brown debuted in the comics strip Peanuts. A child full of determination but somehow ended up a loser because bad luck is always associated with him.

5. Bugs Bunny – in 1937 Tex Avery in 1937 created this funny character famous for his “What’s up, Doc?” line. Bug Bunny was a fictional rabbit who first appeared in’ Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies Cartoons. He won the Academy Award for Animation in 1958 and presently the corporate mascot for Warner Brothers animated productions.

You may have other cartoon characters in your mind that should be included in the list, but I guess you have to make a separate list..

    1. I like your list.

  2. I am a definite Ghost Fighter fan. I used to watched episode after episode with my younger brothers and my mom at home. I love the characters in that anime tv show. Hunter X Hunter is also one of my faves :)

Well, Bugs Bunny is always fun to watch!

  3. Same here. Naku si misis, maycomplete DVD pa nila Eugene.. LOL

  4. I love Mickey Mouse because even though there is no conversation, everything is pretty much entertaining and hilarious! Merry Christmas Papaleng.

  5. Back when me and my siblings were just kids, we love watching Disney and our favorite characters are Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse. Because even if they seldom talk, the actions and the funny scenes really strike us kids.
And now that I have a kid, we both love Hello Kitty and friends.

  6. I also have my own fave...first sa kapanahunan ko I love pooh, Ewoks (ewan kong alam nyo yun) carebears...bugs bunny, especially MIckey MOuse.. siempre wag kalmiutan si X-Men! :P . Naloka din ako kay San GOku..hahaha...and Fushigi Yuugi...

  7. Wow, what an interesting list Papaleng but to be honest feeling ko wala akong childhood kasi sa totoo lang bago ko lang sila nakilala nung magsimula nang magakhilig si Bella. Hehehe

Si husband kilalang-kilala nya lahat at kahaga ng pamilya ninyo may collection din sya ng mga CD's and DVD's :)

    Merry Christmas po!

    5. Dinobots of the Autobot Transformers.. (just sad seeing them as not as powerful as the constructicons of the Decepticons..

hahaha oh btw.. There is one I watch on channel 2 before.. its Dog of Flanders.. hahahahh and Cedi.. I always remember the dog Patras..woot

  10. i am loving mickey mouse now too! i kept on buying my daughter hello kitty stuffs just to figure out that she like minnie and mickey rather than hello kitty haha

  11. Mickey and Bugs have indeed gone a long way with studios and theme parks with them on the forefront.

  12. I still watch cartoons more so now that I have a 4 year old. I love popeye, wacky races, mutant ninja turtles, tom and jerry,, it's Dora, Barbie, TinkerBell.

  13. Your wife and me got the same collection sir. Eugene is still the best. Haha!

  14. Mickey Mouse has and will always be a favorite. Very timeless appeal.

  15. I never liked Mickey Mouse... In your list, I think I like Popeye best... I would have chosen Superman but he is more of a Comic Book Hero than a Cartoon Character although he had many animated series like the Justice League...

  16. My favorite is Popye, because of the funny love story together with olive and brutus.

  17. Love your own list! Me, I have too many to mention but the top 1 for me is Woody Wood Pecker.
